Most structural renovation work involves an electrical element — new sockets, rewired circuits, or moving a consumer unit — and in England this falls under Part P of the Building Regulations, which means it needs to be carried out (or checked) by a registered electrician and, in most cases, notified to your local authority.
Simple like-for-like replacements, such as swapping a socket faceplate, don’t need notification. Anything involving new circuits, a kitchen or bathroom, or a consumer unit change generally does.
On our projects, a qualified electrician handles first and second fix as part of the coordinated schedule, with certification provided at the end so you have the paperwork if you ever come to sell.
